what we've been reading...

A friend of mine suggested Shel Silverstein's The Missing Piece for my daughter. It is a simple work but beautifully profound:-)
Recently we have been hooked on to Roald Dahl's children books. He is so charmingly disgusting;-) We love him.
...and not to forget the amazing Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree.

I am guessing during the summer holidays I would be reading more of children's books:-)

The Missing Piece looks very interesting and quite different from all the usual kids books.

I loved The Faraway Tree, especially as always Enid Blyton's descriptions of food. If you've described (aptly) Roald Dahl's stories for children as charmingly disgusting, I really wonder what you'll say about his stories for adults.

I just had my eldest son bring a bunch of books from the UK for his younger brother and we got several Dahl books too. Right now we are zipping through James and the Giant Peach, which I am barely able to put down. I always loved the Faraway Tree collection too. You have to find the Moomintroll collection by Tove Jensen. My all time children's favorites!!! Best to start with "Finn Family Moomintroll".

AH, I was reading that to my sister the other day, you must also read "Falling Up" by Silverstein as well

You mention Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree. I make some inferences and references to it in my book on Enid Blyton, titled, The Famous Five: A Personal Anecdotage (www.bbotw.com).

Enid Blyton is timeless. But I don't quite see kids these days reading her books. I put myself to bed by reading Adventures of the Wishing Chair, Bedtime Stores...

Try getting Diary of a Wimpy Kid for your daughter, its funny.
