Happy Halloween!

Well, in India we don't celebrate Halloween. I picked up a cute little pumpkin today and just thought I'll give carving a try. Not a bad 'Jack-O-Lantern'.

Happy Halloween !

Cool Ganeshas!

On our last trip to Chennai we had visited the shore temple at Mahabalipuram. There were few souvenir shops selling carved wooden Ganeshas. I must say these Ganesha's knew exactly how to beat the heat.

And time flies...

It's been a while since I posted on my blog. Things have been kind of hectic. I am working on a new project which involves things that I and my husband are passionate about. Will be sharing with all of you soon.

Meanwhile, let me share some more pics from the Folk Mela. We are taking a break & travelling to an interesting destination, will be back next week with loads of things to share.

Hampi Utsav.

The group monuments at Hampi are listed as Unesco's World Heritage Site. Hampi is an experience. I just love the ancient dravidian architecture.

The Govt. of Karnataka is organising a 'Hampi Utsav' a festival of dance, drama and music set against the backdrop of the exquisite ruins of the Vijayanagara dynasty- Hampi.

Diwali Rangolis.

We had a Modern Rangoli Competition in our building during Diwali.

My husband and I were in different teams.
Our theme was 'Progress & Prosperity'. We depicted it using all organic products like pulses etc.
My husband's theme was 'Vaastu'. I think they did a great job.

Gearing up for Diwali.

Yes, it's that time of the year. Diwali-the festival of lights is just around the corner. There is excitement everywhere. The homes being spruced up, people out shopping till they drop, sweet shops doing brisk business. I just love it!

I went to 'Pottery Town' to pick up some earthern 'diyas'. Diyas in interesting shapes & sizes drying out in the sun, ready to be baked and then spray painted in amazing terracotta or metallic colours. LOVE IT!

Mylapore Shopping.

If you really want to get the feel of cultural Chennai, head straight to Mylapore. Kapaleeshwar Temple is the main attraction of the place. The street leading to the temple has tiny shops selling brass puja items, dance costume jewelry, sarees etc.

This Dusshera, the streets wore a festive look with colourful idols for 'Golu' displayed along the footpath. The sight of vendors selling jasmine flowers, exotic spices, vegetables, plastic baskets, garlands...was amazing.

Here are some very interesting pics taken during my trip to Mylapore.

Colourful Glass Beads.

Another post about Chennai! Well, I have been so excited to share the amazing things I discovered in Chennai. This is my 3rd post in a day!

The Tamilnadu Gypsies or Narikuravas display strings of colourful glass beads in various sizes & shapes, in front of temples & busy marketplaces.

I picked up a few very interesting braclets & pendants in unusual colours. Enjoy the colours!
