I just happened to borrow City of Djinns- A year in Delhiby William Dalrymple from one of our friends. The book is about old Delhi and I, having lived in Delhi for a large part of my growing years was very curious to read this book...
As I flipped through the pages, the motifs & illustrations caught my fancy and here I am sharing it with you all...
The illustrations are by Olivia Fraser.Do give it a read or flip through the pages in a bookstore;-)
WHAT a COINCIDENCE!! Im reading City of Djinns right now & loving every minute of it! I just finished reading 'Age of Kali' by Dalrymple & loved it so much that I picked up this one. Infact I've already gifted a copy of it to a friend, cause I knew she's love it. A recommendation: dont know if you hear 'Abida Parveen', but do listen to her rendition of ' O desh se aane wale bata..' after you read the chapter about the partition and the writer who could never come back to delhi... Infact let me see if I can mail u an mp3 of the song :)
yeah, that's in my must read list :) and hey, nice blog header once again, and well, i dont click those myself, haven't got hold of a camera yet, just search these from random stock image sites.
wow....such lovely illustrations...and i really love the first photograph in which even the texture of the paper is so clearly visible! I havent read anything by Dalrymple, but I intend to read White Mughals very soon!
